Who we are:
Keegan lives in Medford, and fuels herself and purchases her favorite gifts in Somerville. Since her first child started preschool in a co-op in Cambridge, then continued onto elementary school in Cambridge, she spends most her time and has made most of her friends there. Before she had children, she lived in Jamaica Plain, and she still crosses the river regularly just to soak up city’s vibe. She has three children, ages 6, 4, and 1, and is busy enough with that, thank you. Her husband graduates from a six-year medical school stint in May; she will have a city-wide, week-long party and you’re all invited. (Update: Keegan has recently moved to Northampton, a groovy little town a couple hours west. She will continue to write for CMB, as it is her (fourth) baby. Because she has even more to say, she started another blog for Northampton-ites, called Nohomom.
Maria has lived in Central Square for almost a decade now, but grew up in the suburbs north of Boston, and always assumed they’d be long gone by the time kids came along. Almost five years into parenthood, the vibrant diversity of city life in Cambridge has not lost its appeal to her! Her household consists of two kids (five 1/2 and three 1/2), two adults, and many stuffed animals, dolls, and lego people, which seem to be multiplying at only a slightly faster pace than the various stringed instruments, amplifiers, books, and under-read copies of the New Yorker belonging to the adults. After two lovely years at a great co-op nursery school (where the 3 1/2 year old now has use of his sister’s former cubby), Maria’s daughter started kindergarten at the Cambridgeport School this fall. She’s enjoying diving in to the nitty gritty of Cambridge civic life as a public school parent.

Caroline is a mother of two (Sophie, age 4 3/4 and Natasha, age 2 1/2) and a wife of one (Naveed). This small but steadfast army of 4 lives in Cambridge, in the Porter Square area where, in spite of the fact that Cambridge Public Works is currently tearing up their street (they claim they’re redoing the gas lines), they feel firmly and happily rooted. When asked by her daughter what she wants to be when she grows up, Caroline finds herself at a loss for words. Her perfect job would include 2-3 hours a day of uplifting and fulfilling work in the company of grown-ups, followed by long afternoons at the park with her kids. Aaah.
Laura lives in Somerville with her husband, 6 year old son and 2 year old daughter. Surprisingly (to her), she has been a stay at home mom since her daughter’s birth. When not overwhelmed and procrastinating her house renovation, she volunteers at her son’s school and searches far and wide for fun things to do with (and increasingly without) her kids.
Happy New Year! I hope all is well with you. I wanted to send you a fun, parenting/food related information your way. We all know them … those kids who will eat nothing but pizza or hot dogs, hamburgers or peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches. The “picky eater” syndrome worries parents who wonder whether their children are getting the nutrients necessary to grow strong and healthy. We have recipes incorporate vegetables and fruits, protein and calcium. They’re delicious and nutritious and give hope to parents … I hope you’ll be able to use the information as part of a blog entry. I’m sure many parents would appreciate it. How could we submit it?
