I found a box labeled yards sale in the basement.  You know, a glass coffee table bowl from Pier One, candle holders, all the things replaced by Legos or non-breakable “dustables” (as my bachelor friend calls all decorative nic-nacs) in my living room.  I don’t know how long they were there waiting for the often […]

Apparently, these days you don’t need to be a Birkenstock wearing, mung bean eating, compost turning, macrame weaving, flax seed bread baking mama to successfully outfit your babies in cloth diapers. Yes, the sweet home goods store Bowl and Board, formerly found between Harvard and Central Square, is now in Somerville. If you have never been there, it has a mix of home goods, kitchen ware, simple furniture (butcher blocks, shelving, chairs, a couch or two), carpets and even clothes and personal items. I […]

I just took my kids to see Nim’s Island this past rainy Saturday at the Arlington Capitol Theater. Well, the movie was alright– not as much adventure as I was hoping for, but the scenes of Nim swimming through the water with her sea lion buddy were pretty cool for, um, the children.
Though I don’t […]

Finding Good Babysitters

Why is it that that every few months, it seems we are looking for another good babysitter? We don’t move every few months, our children aren’t hyenas, we’re (relatively) clean, and we get along well with our sitters. Could it be that, um, all sitters around here are students whose class schedules change every three […]

You may have heard this week that Popular Science rated Cambridge number six on its list of America’s 50 greenest cities.
